Spiritual Abuse Recovery
Religion shouldn't hurt
- Have you been hurt by a painful religious experience?
- Have you been told that questioning church leadership is sinful?
- Have you been physically or sexually abused by church leaders?
- Have you felt betrayed or exploited by religion?
- Have you been turned away or blacklisted from a religious community?
- Have you been labeled a troublemaker by a church?
- Have you been shamed for expressing doubt?
- Has the church let you down?
You are not alone.
What You Experienced Is Real
Harm done in the name of God is some of the most painful and confusing trauma we can experience. Spiritual abuse occurs when someone in a position of authority (parent, priest, friend, family member or an entire church) misuses their authority placing themselves over others to control, coerce or manipulate them for seemingly Godly purposes which are really their own. Shame is the cross people bear who have been abused and hurt by religious systems. Breaking free from spiritual abuse takes courage, and the healing of religious wounds takes time, compassion, and an exploration of the truth. At Resolve, we are passionate about helping others heal and understand the truth about themselves and the systems that hurt them.
Spiritual abuse recovery is done from an empowerment perspective that builds on principles of self-determination, autonomy, and freedom from tactics of gas-lighting, mind control, and manipulation.
Individual Therapy
It is common for those who have experienced spiritual abuse to have symptoms of PTSD. Spiritual Trauma is unique and confusing. Talking to someone in a therapeutic setting can help you begin the healing process and make meaning out of what happened to you.
